Lisa Coons
grew up on a farm outside of Macon,
Missouri where she began her studies as a pianist at the
age of six. After high school, she was awarded a Diploma in
Recording Engineering from The Conservatory of Recording
Arts and Sciences in Tempe, AZ and completed an internship
at Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta, GA. She has a
Bachelor’s in composition from the Conservatory of
Music at the University of Missouri—Kansas City,
where she studied with James Mobberley and Chen Yi, and a
Master’s from the State University of New York at
Stony Brook. In 2005 she was received the Morton Gould
Young Composer Award from the ASCAP Foundation and is
presently in the second year of her studies towards a PhD.
